Bernie Marden is a Bath paediatrician and lives in a village South of Bath and Bristol with his wife, a school nurse, and any of his four grown up children who happen to be around! He enjoys country walks with the family dogs, plays golf, cycles and is a keen photographer. Bernie recently completed a Masters (LLM) in Medical Law and Ethics.
​ For the last 3 years he has been a group doctor for the charity www.dreamflight.org taking seriously ill and disabled children on a holiday of a lifetime to Orlando, Florida.

Training and Qualifications

Bernie graduated in 1992 from St. George's Hospital Medical School, University of London. From London Bernie went to Salisbury where he undertook training to become a GP before changing tracks to Paediatrics. He worked in Southampton, Portsmouth, Poole and Dorchester in addition to spending a year in Vancouver as a Neonatal Fellow. He completed his MRCP (Paediatrics) in 1998. In 2004 he was appointed as a Consultant in Bath.

  • General Paediatrics and neonatology
  • Neonatal neurodevelopmental follow-up

Research Interests

  • The impact of the care environment on patient welfare and clinical outcomes.

Dr Marden has presented on this topic to the Royal Society of Medicine and has featured in the media, eg national newspapers, BBC Breakfast News, and most recently with BBC World News.
